Narayanan Krishnan was a bright, young, award-winning chef with the five-star Taj Hotel and was short-listed from thousands to take up a lucrative job in Switzerland. But a quick family visit home before heading to Europe, some when in 2002 changed everything for him.
The noble man witnessed an incident that left him so shocked and devastated that he quit his job the same week. In his own words – “It was an incident which touched my heart and sparked an inner voice which inspired me to take the path of giving. Then and there, I found the ultimate purpose of my life”.

According to this CNN report, the donations received by his group, Akshaya Trust barely cover the operational expenses of 22 days a month. The rest is borne by Narayanan himself.
